I'm Jenny, the newest addition to the Landmass Team. I've just moved from Brooklyn, NY to Austin, TX so I'm exploring this new city, while simultaneously planning my travels abroad for next year.
One of my goals for 2018 is to do more traveling - like a lot more traveling. I have so much I want to see and so I've pulled together a list of the 5 cheapest places to travel in 2018 and thought I'd share it with you!
The 5 Cheapest Places to Travel in 2018 (that I've never been to)
Bulgaria
This country has literally everything: affordable accommodations, incredible food, beautiful sites and friendly locals. Plus, a thriving and gorgeous wine country - my kind of place! You'll be able to enjoy everything this country has to offer for about $45 a day. The locals are very proud of their gorgeous country and are more than happy to help you get the full experience and make the most of your time there.
Mazatlan, Mexico
The exchange rate is super favorable to US travelers right now. Plus as the shrimp capital of Mexico, Mazatlan offers interesting, affordable and delicious dishes. Keep in mind that the summer brings the rainy season, so it's best to visit in fall, winter or spring. You'll be able to relax on the beautiful beaches and explore the post-colonial buildings in the busy downtown.
Chile
A beautiful destination for city explorers and hikers alike, Chile offers a under-the-radar vibe. This way, you'll find affordable prices and friendly locals without the crowds of tourists. A diverse landscape offers stunning hikes and opportunities to enjoy a unique experience. With everything from waterfalls and volcanos to beautiful architecture and local markets, Chile is a perfect location for an inexpensive getaway.
Crete
Greece has been on the top of my list for ages and this year is a perfect time to make the trip. Their farm-to-table lifestyle makes this country a foodie's dream come true. Generous and friendly locals, gorgeous beaches and impressive ancient ruins are all ripe for exploration here. The art and architecture reflects the country's rich history. Keep in mind that the heat can get a bit intense in peak season, so it's best to choose early spring or fall to visit this stunning location.
Vietnam
Our founder, Alfred, has been telling me his stories of Vietnam, and frankly, I'm sold. It's an affordable, friendly and welcoming country with beautiful sights. Whether you're a kayak fan, want to relax on the beach or eat like a local, this small country is a perfect destination.
